What is a Proxy Server?
A proxy server is an intermediary server that acts as a bridge between your device (computer, smartphone, or other device) and the internet. When you connect to the internet through a proxy server, your web requests are first routed through this server, which then forwards them to the target server (e.g., a website). Once the target server responds, the proxy server sends the response back to your device.
Common Uses of Proxy Servers
- Privacy and Anonymity: Proxy servers mask your real IP address, protecting your privacy and reducing the risk of tracking your online activities.
- Access to Restricted Content: Proxies can bypass geographic restrictions, allowing you to access content that might otherwise be unavailable in your region.
- Web Scraping and Automation: Essential for large-scale data collection from the internet, proxies help bypass restrictions on the number of requests from a single IP address.
- Security and Content Filtering: In corporate environments, proxies are often used to monitor and restrict employee access to specific websites.
- Speed and Reliability Optimization: Some proxies cache frequently accessed websites, reducing the time required to load them.

Testing NinjaProxy
For our test, we had access to residential servers (3 IP addresses) and private servers (5 IP addresses). To conduct the testing, we created a simple Node.js application that included four tests:
- Geolocation Test – Verifies the IP address and geolocation data of the proxy server. It uses the service ip-api.com to obtain location information and returns details such as country, city, region, and other geolocation data.
- Speed Test – Measures the response speed of the proxy server. It performs a simple query to the website Onlyfans.com, measuring the time between sending the request and receiving the response in milliseconds. This helps determine the proxy server’s latency.
- Consistency Test – Performs repeated speed tests (default is 5 iterations). There is a 1-second pause between each test, monitoring whether the proxy server’s performance remains stable over time. This helps identify speed fluctuations or instability.
- Website Scraping Test – Tests the proxy server’s ability to access three different websites (in our case, Onlyfans.com, Tiktok.com, and X.com). For each website, it measures: access success rate, response time, any errors encountered.
All these tests utilize:
- IP address rotation (cycling through 3-5 different proxy servers)
- Tracking which proxy URL was used for each test
- Detailed result reporting
- The ability to test both residential and private proxy servers simultaneously
NinjaProxy User Interface
Accessing proxy servers is very straightforward. You simply visit the NinjaProxy website, select the type of proxy servers suitable for your use case, fill in your billing details, specify the required number of proxy servers, and place your order. Once the payment is completed, you’ll receive an email with your account credentials.
We already had our accounts set up, but to begin testing, we first had to configure the login credentials for each proxy server in the application. These credentials can be found in the NinjaProxy admin interface after logging into your account. Since we were testing both residential and private proxy servers, we had two separate user accounts. From the user’s perspective, it’s a bit inconvenient that both types of proxy servers cannot be managed under a single user account; instead, each type requires a separate account.
The admin interface itself is very simple and user-friendly. It mainly consists of three sections:

In addition, the administration includes simple API documentation and payment management for services.

To use individual proxy servers in our application, we had to take the following steps:
- In the section with an overview of authenticated IP addresses, we added the IP addresses from which our application accesses the proxy servers. In our case, this was the IP address of my laptop, physically located in the Czech Republic, from which I ran the test application, and the IP address of a Surfshark VPN server in the USA, through which I simulated access to the proxy servers from the USA.
- In the section with an overview of proxy servers, we downloaded a file containing login credentials and addresses of the individual proxy servers.
- We repeated these same steps for both NinjaProxy accounts (for residential and private proxies).
- We copied the obtained login credentials into the configuration script of the test application.
- And then we began testing.

Consistency Test (USA) | 471 ms | 489 ms | Private proxy was 3.7% faster. |
1. Performance of Private Proxy Servers
Private proxy servers outperformed residential proxies in all tests. The speed difference was most significant in:
- Scraping Test (USA): Private proxies were 18.5% faster.
- Consistency Test (CZ): Private proxies were 17.8% faster.
These results indicate that private proxies are more suitable for tasks requiring consistent speed and efficient data processing.
2. Performance Stability
Differences in consistency tests show that private proxy servers provide more stable performance with fewer fluctuations. For example:
- Consistency Test (USA): The difference was only 3.7%, showing that while residential proxies can achieve an acceptable level of stability in some cases, they still fall behind.
3. Efficiency Across Different Geographical Locations
Performance tests (e.g., scraping tests) reveal that geographical distance plays a critical role:
- Differences between private and residential proxies are more pronounced in the USA than in the Czech Republic.
- Speed Test (USA): Private proxies were 7.9% faster.

Conclusion
Based on the tests conducted and the analysis of results, it is clear that private proxy servers outperformed residential proxies across all measured parameters. Private proxies achieved better results in speed, stability, and performance consistency, with these differences being more pronounced in geographically distant locations.
Private proxy servers proved to be suitable for tasks requiring high performance and low latency. The most significant advantage of private proxies was observed in scraping tests conducted in the USA, where private proxies were up to 18.5% faster than residential ones. In consistency tests, which measured connection stability over time, private proxies also delivered excellent results – in the Czech location, they were 17.8% faster.
Residential proxies have their place primarily in scenarios where connection authenticity and lower detection by websites are required. Although these proxies offer acceptable stability, their performance lagged behind private proxies in most tests. The speed differences were especially noticeable in tests conducted in remote locations, where residential proxies experienced significantly higher latency.
For tasks demanding high connection speed and stability – such as data scraping, process automation, or accessing web services – private proxy servers are clearly the better choice. Their consistent performance ensures reliability even for long-term use.
On the other hand, residential proxies may be suitable for less critical applications or cases where authenticity and the natural origin of IP addresses are essential.
Ultimately, if performance, low latency, and stability are priorities, private proxy servers are strongly recommended. For specific scenarios where blocking is a major concern, residential proxies can offer an alternative solution.
The choice of the appropriate type of proxy server depends on the specific requirements of the project, budget, and intended use. For basic needs, shared proxies may suffice, while private or residential proxies are better suited for professional and business applications. 5G and 4G proxies represent specialized solutions for mobile and high-speed applications.
